Uncoiling: A large coil of sheet steel (typically galvanized or cold-rolled steel) is loaded onto a decoiler at the start of the line.
Leveling: The metal strip is fed through a leveling machine to remove any coil set or imperfections, ensuring a perfectly flat sheet enters the forming process.
Punching (Optional but Common): This is a critical stage, especially for studs. Before the metal is formed, a servo-controlled punching unit perforates the flat strip with precise holes for utilities (knock-outs) and service holes. The machine can be programmed to skip this step when producing tracks, which typically do not require holes.
Roll Forming Mill: This is the core of the machine. The flat strip passes through a series of tandem roller dies. Each set of rollers incrementally bends the metal until it achieves the final C-shape (for a stud) or U-shape (for a track). The machine is designed with a quick-change system, allowing operators to switch the roller dies and guides to transition from producing studs to tracks, or vice versa, in minimal time.
Cut-to-Length: After the profile is fully formed, a flying cut-off mechanism (usually a saw or hydraulic shear) cuts the continuous profile to precise, pre-programmed lengths without stopping the production line.
Output and Stacking: The finished studs or tracks are automatically conveyed to a stacking table or bundled for easy handling and shipping.
